FORT WORTH, Texas — Billy Bob Thornton is setting sail on a new adventure.
The “Landman” star is partnering with Fox Nation on a new original three-part docudrama series called “Billy Bob Thornton Presents: The Mayflower.” The series premieres Nov. 23.
Hosted by Thornton, the series revisits the history of the Mayflower voyage, the first Thanksgiving and other events that helped shape the country.
“Billy Bob Thornton is a captivating storyteller with a unique ability to bring history to life. ‘The Mayflower’ offers a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on one of the most familiar chapters in American history, giving viewers a richer understanding of the people, conflicts and events that shaped our nation’s beginnings,” Fox Nation president Lauren Petterson said in a news release.
“Mayflower” will trace the Pilgrims’ voyage across the Atlantic Ocean on the titular ship.
Viewers will learn about the fragile alliance between the English settlers and the Wampanoag people, and the conflict that set the stage for the earliest foundations of American identity, according to Fox Nation.
A range of experts was consulted when developing the series, including historians at the Plimoth Patuxet Museums in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Historian Nathaniel Philbrick, who was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his book “Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War,” was also consulted on the series.
“The voyage of the Mayflower set into motion what would become the United States,” Philbrick said in a news release. “Kudos to Billy Bob Thornton for helping to bring this vital story from America’s past to life.”
“Billy Bob Thornton Presents: The Mayflower” is produced by AIRtime Projects and Terminal B TV.
Executive producers on the project include Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Tom Forman, David Metzler, Jordan Rosenblum and John Ealer, who is also the showrunner.
