Kelly Clarkson has blasted a New York store for treating her "like Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman".

The 44-year-old star - who has River, 12, and Remington, 10, with late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock - has told Art of Play that they had lost a "huge sale" following a disappointing experience where staff allegedly "looked at" the Behind These Hazel Eyes hitmaker as if she "couldn't afford" their wares, prompting her to leave without buying anything.

She fumed on X: "Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn't afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me. Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale.

"But y'all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out [thumbs down emoji] (sic)"

Kelly's reference to the 1990s rom-com referred to a scene in which Vivian Ward goes to a clothing boutique and the sales assistant refuses to show her more expensive items. She later returns in a nicer outfit, clutching a string of shopping bags and tells the clerk who refused her service that they had made a "big mistake" and missed out on a huge commission from her.

While Art of Play haven't directly responded to the talk show host's criticism, they shared a message on their Instagram Story which they had received from another customer praising their "genuine kindness".

The review read: "From the very first time I walked into @artofplay, I felt welcomed and treated with such genuine kindness.

"I love discovering unique treasures and connecting with the wonderful people there.

"[Art of Play is] a place that leaves you smiling and wanting to come back. I'm already counting down the days until I return in two weeks."

However, the review has now been removed from their Instagram Story.

As well as selling unique toys and curiosities, Art of Play is also a design space and home to a close-up magic theatre.
