Isaiah Washington has broken his silence on his wife Jenisa Garland's sudden death last year.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday (03.10.26), the former Grey's Anatomy star said she "collapsed suddenly" on May 31, 2025, and died just nine days later after "succumbing to a massive hemorrhagic stroke".

Isaiah, 63, who retired from acting in 2023, shared a black-and-white shot of Jenisa, with the caption: "Yes…the rumors are true. My dear wife of 29 years collapsed suddenly on May 31, 2025 and passed away on June 9, 2025. It came as a huge shock to me and our entire family.

"She succumbed to a massive hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered."

The Exit Wounds alum urged people to "take those headaches seriously" and get them checked out.

He continued: "Listen, y'all…some headaches are not just headaches or migraines, they can be much worse and a warning sign. Get a brain scan if you can and take those headaches seriously."

Isaiah concluded: "She has been gone 16 months now, but she left 3 incredibly amazing children behind to continue her legacy.

"I don't know if this is an appropriate post, because Jenisa Washington was extremely private, but I guess I just have to be reprimanded from her on the other side."

The Hollywood Homicide entertainer met Jenisa at a dinner party in Los Angeles, and they got married on Valentine's Day in 1996.

The couple later welcomed three children: sons Isaiah V and Tyme, and daughter Iman.

In 2022, Isaiah said he considers his family when deciding which acting roles to take.

The Romeo Must Die cast member explained to Fox News Digital: "I always told my wife, since I have the kids and a wife, that I would rather kiss a horse than a woman on screen. Because then I have to explain myself to my daughter, like, 'Why are you kissing a strange woman?'"

Clarifying he was joking, Isaiah added: "I've said 'No' more than I have said 'Yes.'"

He continued: "Because I always wanted to be alive to know, 20 years later, what my kids would think of me in that particular role.

"For me, being married and having children did change a lot of my trajectory. That's why I didn't want to get married 25 years ago, but I'm glad I did because the wife and children really make you the best human being that you can be."
