FORT WORTH, Texas — “The Chosen” is wrapping up filming on its seventh and final season in North Texas this week.

The biblical drama, based on the life of Jesus, has primarily filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian since Season 3. The more than 1,200-acre facility houses space for set building, sound stages and anything else the show needs.

By the weekend, the production will wrap its nearly five-month shoot that began in late April.

To mark the end of filming, several local press members were invited to tour the set on Monday, Sept. 21, and speak with some of the show’s crew, including series creator Dallas Jenkins.

“I do hope that on other projects, we have a chance to use some of these facilities and this great landscape and the great people that we have here,” Jenkins told the Star-Telegram.

‘The Chosen’ Season 7 wraps filming

Season 7, which will cover the Resurrection, filmed across a warm Texas summer.

Jenkins joked that there are times when he shows up to set and says “never again” because of the unforgiving weather. But, he’s quick to point out that while the weather has been difficult at times, the production has lost very few days to the elements.

“I’ll miss that part of it,” he said.

Jenkins doesn’t believe his time is over in Texas.

When “The Chosen” filmed at other places like in Utah or Italy, it was more out of necessity and not because the show wanted to leave the Lone Star State. He enjoyed his time here and knows the cast and crew did as well.

“I’m sure we’re going to find more ways to make this work,” Jenkins said.

“The Chosen” is described as a “historical drama based on the life of Jesus and those who knew him.”

The series stars Jonathan Roumie, Paras Patel, Shahar Isaac, George H. Xanthis, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Jordan Walker Ross, Vanessa Benavente, Luke Dimyan, Richard Fancy, Paul Ben-Victor and Andrew James Allen.

“Chosen” fans don’t have much longer to wait until Season 6 premieres on Nov. 15 on Prime Video. The finale will then open in movie theaters on March 12, 2027. This season will cover the Crucifixion and the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life before he is nailed to the cross.

“The Chosen” Season 7 premiere will release in theaters on March 31, 2028. It’s unclear when the rest of the season will release on Prime Video.
