Okeechobee Music Festival back for 10th year with GRiZ, LCD Soundsystem and 130+ acts

ORLANDO, Fla. — Four full days of music and arts await festivalgoers at the pristine 800-acre Sunshine Grove as one of Florida’s biggest festivals returns for its 10th anniversary.
The Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival brings an eclectic lineup to this year’s event with headliners Cage the Elephant, Fisher, LCD Soundsystem, T-Pain and the Lumineers appearing among more than 130 acts performing this year. In addition to hearing music on six stages, the festival’s anticipated 30,000 attendees can camp under the stars, explore immersive art installations and take a dip in the pond at Aquachobee beach.
“We’re one of the only festivals where we don’t shut down for four days straight. You can have something to do for 24 hours every day. You can walk around, it’s like being in a video game,” said festival co-founder Rechulski. “We take pride in that, and I think that’s something important that most festivals don’t offer.”
During the camping festival March 19-22, which is back after a two-year hiatus, fans can experience a selection of music that blends genres from hip-hop, funk and reggae to alternative rock, folk and plenty of EDM.
The weekend kicks off with an Aquachobee dub reggae takeover with a Nyabinghi drumming opening ceremony. Other Thursday night openers include Cage the Elephant, Dirty Heads, Knock2, Big Wild and Saxsquatch. The festival’s Friday night features headliners GRiZ and T-Pain, along with hip-hop performer Freddie Gibbs and indie rockers Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Japanese Breakfast.
Saturday night represents the pinnacle of the festival weekend with a set from EDM artist Fisher and dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem. The night’s features genre-bending performances from Big Gigantic, Goth Babe and Tycho, hip-hop acts BigXthaPlug and Paris Texas, and jam bands Dogs in a Pile and Eggy.
The Okee PoWoW! also takes the stage that night, promising a “once-in-a-lifetime superjam” that brings together artists from across genres and generations. Previous years have included collaborations from Snoop Dogg with the Roots, Chaka Khan and Trombone Shorty. The 2023 event brought together Anderson .Paak, the Free Nationals, Big Boi, members of Goose and horns from Earth Wind & Fire.
Closing out the festival on Sunday night are acts such as the Lumineers, Young the Giant, Flipturn, and Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners.
The festival’s lineup has always punched above its weight, even during the first edition in 2016 that brought big-name acts to Okeechobee County.
“We had a lot of incredible acts from Robert Plant to Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller. We had Post Malone before he was as famous back then,” Rechulski said. “We wanted to offer an eclectic lineup.”
The beautiful piece of land that hosts the festival has always been a draw for attendees, performers and festival workers alike. Prior to being purchased by event producer Soundslinger, the 800-acre Sunshine Grove was slated to become a housing development. When that plan fell apart, music festival organizers realized a new dream for the property.
“I do feel extremely lucky and a great sense of responsibility to be a steward of this land, to take care of it and try to keep it immaculate for our patrons in March. It’s sacred at this point,” Rechulski said. “I know people who’ve fallen in love, gotten married and had children after meeting there. It’s got a lot of different emotional components to many different people.”
During the festival’s 10th year, the festival’s hosts aim to provide a welcome break from reality.
“If I can provide something to people, it’s for them to have an escape to come and enjoy. They can forget about everything in life and go back to their inner child for these four days,” Rechulski said. “At the end of the festival, the thing they are thinking about most is when they’re going to return.”
