Simon Cowell has been "thrilled" by the reaction to his new Netflix show.

The 66-year-old music mogul stars in a new docuseries called Simon Cowell: The Next Act, which explores his efforts to find a new chart-topping boy band, and Simon considers the show to have been a huge success, prompting him to commit to a second season already.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "There was a quiet hope that a show about finding a boyband would be as popular now as it was back in the days of the X Factor.

"But everyone has been thrilled by the reception because the whole world of entertainment has totally changed since then."

Netflix aired the first season of the show, but it's possible that season two could appear on another platform.

The insider explained: "Following December 10 for a second series is a no-brainer. They're rocketing online and already have a strong fanbase, and a camera crew has been following them since series one wrapped.

"All that content would make up series two and even if Netflix don't commission it, there's options like streaming it directly to fans on YouTube."

Simon recently suggested he was putting his reputation on the line for the show.

Simon - who has previously enjoyed huge success with groups like One Direction and Fifth Harmony - says on the show: "I've put my head on the block. If it doesn't work, it would feel like the end."

Asked what it would be "the end" of, Simon simply replied: "My career."

Simon was determined to prove that he can still identify and develop musical talent.

The executive explained: "If I can't get it right now, I have to accept that I've lost what I had before."

Meanwhile, the logline for the show explained: "Since 2001, he has appeared as a judge on several music reality competition series including Pop Idol, American Idol, The X Factor and The X Factor UK, Britain's Got Talent, and America's Got Talent. On these shows, he became infamous for his snarky remarks and harsh critiques. Now, however, viewers will get an even more intimate look at Cowell's process and unparalleled ability to identify and foster talent."
